Water retention and erosion strategies - checkdams construction

Mnyumbuni demo farm in Kiriba Village protects a valley of indigenous trees. The valley is suffering erosion and the forest around is still young We implemented 15 checkdams along the gullies formed by the rains Technique : Prune trees to get branches for both making sticks and weaving material Weave the branches together around sticks strongly inserted into the ground Get rocks, branches and available biomass to build the retention structure Weave another line of branches to hold the inside together The checkdams need to be strong and firm for water to be able to infiltrate without breaking the structure
